Sustainability Science Forum 2025: Ensuring a just transition towards a net zero society
Switzerland wants to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. This requires comprehensive structural change in key areas such as industry, mobility, housing and agriculture, which will have an impact on all population groups. Far-reaching changes harbour risks, but also open up opportunities for a higher quality of life and new jobs through the emergence of new industries, business models and a fairer social order.
How can this transition be organised in such a way that it is fair, widely accepted by society and economically feasible? Which political processes are helpful for this? What potential do social innovations have and how can they be scaled up? What are the biggest conflicts of interest and how can we create win-win situations? How can scientific knowledge be productively combined with political and practical experience to shape a just transition?
We would like to explore and critically discuss these and many other questions with experts and participants at the Sustainability Science Forum 2025. Explore the programme and speaker line-up here.
