Stéphanie Penher is the managing director of VCS Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz, one of the Swiss transport associations. She studied Romance languages and linguistics and has worked for a trade union and as campaign manager for the Swiss Green Party. She was a member of the Bern City Parliament for twelve years.

Transport policy is a matter close to Penher's heart, and she has been associated with the VCS for over 25 years. She has launched and led numerous initiative and referendum campaigns at all levels of government, for example for the development of car-free residential areas and the expansion of local public transport. Under her leadership, the VCS is driving forward the transport revolution: less traffic, prioritisation of public transport, cycling and walking, and the switch to fossil-free modes of transport. She believes that greater road safety and affordable, easily accessible mobility are equally important for the transport revolution.
